A state of distribution in which all action has come to a standstill. What happens when living organisms teeter on edge, when movement becomes stillness, and stillness is questionable? What gestures of attunement are performed to sustain balance? What sounds are heard through action and stillness? What are sounds that can’t be heard and might keep us standing? What sort of gesture allows for attunement to site, audience, and to each other? These questions as well as mystic communication systems and histories of spiritualism inform this piece. This new durational performance, A state of distribution in which all action has come to a standstill, created by artist Angela Ellsworth, engages a group of self-identifying women attempting to recover the impossibility of balance.
